Two years have passed since the CCG's raid on Anteiku. Although the atmosphere in Tokyo has changed drastically due to the increased influence of the CCG, ghouls continue to pose a problem as they have begun taking caution, especially the terrorist organization Aogiri Tree, who acknowledge the CCG's growing threat to their existence. The creation of a special team, known as the Quinx Squad, may provide the CCG with the push they need to exterminate Tokyo's unwanted residents. As humans who have undergone surgery in order to make use of the special abilities of ghouls, they participate in operations to eradicate the dangerous creatures. The leader of this group, Haise Sasaki, is a half-ghoul, half-human who has been trained by famed special class investigator, Kishou Arima. However, there's more to this young man than meets the eye, as unknown memories claw at his mind, slowly reminding him of the person he used to be. This season had weird pacing relatively but as soon as the characters were established and they started flourishing, the story became clear. The characters slowly build up and they are quirky(quinx squad). It is evident that there will be more focus on the older and familiar characters in the coming seasons but this was a necessary deviation from the previous installations. It had a lighter tone and I did become fond of Haise and Shuu. The quinx squad had a heart. Pretty interested in where it is all going. It was like a good dream for the broken and that is what makes a story whole which is what I like about Tokyo ghoul series as it shows the descent or ascent making it very relatable. At a meeting somewhere in Japan an anime executive must have stood up and asked, "How can we make this anime series sequel terrible?" It's as if someone systematically removed everything that was unique, different, or interesting from the Tokyo Ghoul franchise, and replaced it all with tired, worn out anime tropes. Now it's full of cocky, brooding, posing, hero-types. And a sword, someone needs to have a plain old sword (fans love swords). And all the main characters, let's make them all kind of 18 to 21, young and sexy, that's what we want (marketing says the demographic skews this way). And only one freak half-ghoul? Screw that, lots of them! And they fight the ghouls because… well, whatever. They can be tortured souls then, who cares.

I don't know what show people were watching when they left their ratings, but it couldn't be the same one I watched. The show I watched was so thoroughly generic it was like it was designed using every anime cliche they could think of. I don't think there was a cute mascot creature-thing, but don't quote me on that, I didn't watch it all the way through. I couldn't take much of it. And I didn't see any cute super-deformed bits, but again I wouldn't be surprised to see some in it.

Save yourself the disappointment I've experienced and skip this.
